Occie Odell Culp, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, under hospice care from Alzheimer's, dementia and complications from diabetes. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Westdale Community Church, 3211 Edgewood Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Supt. Beets of Word of Faith will officiate. Repass will be held after the service at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Occie was born Oct. 12, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Occie Culp Sr. and Geraldine (Jackson) Culp. He married Georgianna Hatchette on Jan. 20, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. Occie was a metal polisher at Evergreen for 26 years before he retired in 1997. He was a member of Westdale Community Church and was an active member of ABC Bowling for nearly 40 years. Occie loved to fish, check out his luck at the card table and, of course, go bowling. When he was younger, Occie loved the thrill of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Georgianna Culp of Cedar Rapids; his children, Jeannette Culp of Hiawatha and Alisha (Johnny) Olsen of Boca Raton, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and aunts, Mary Paige of Cedar Rapids and June Hinston of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Occie Sr. and Geraldine; son, Jerome Culp; and brothers, Irvin, Jerry and Dennis Culp.
