Lukas, Virginia
Virginia Lukas, 88, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
Virginia was born May 19, 1921, in Northome, Minn., the daughter of James and Esther Ellingson Beach. She married Eric Lukas on Oct. 7, 1945, in Portland, Ore. He later passed away in 1981.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Beverly Weismann (Douglas) of Iowa City; a granddaughter, Amy Weismann (Amir Hadzic) of Iowa City; a grandson, Adam Weismann (Katy Bryce) of Cornwall, England; and a sister, Joanne Reams, and brother, Jim Beach, both of Portland, Ore.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eric; and her brother, Harland Beach.
Virginia's family wishes to thank the staff, residents and families at Bickford Cottage for the love and support they showed to Virginia throughout the last three years of her life. They are especially grateful for the kindness of Warren Traman. The family is also very grateful to Iowa City Hospice, Mercy Hospice Care at Mercy Iowa City, and the Solon Nursing Care Center for the comfort and support during Virginia's final days.
