Lee was born Dec. 21, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Lillian (Hinek) Norman. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1963. Lee married Janine Stastny in Ely on Aug. 22, 1975. His first job was at Benner Tea Company in Iowa City, and then he worked at Fleetway Stores in Iowa City and Marion until he left to farm in 1981. Lee later worked in sales at Tractor Supply, where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of farming with his customers. He often could be seen driving around Ely in his pickup to visit fellow farmers and catch up with neighbors. Lee loved to mow the lawn and had a fascination with equipment and machinery. He was a John Deere toy collector and was partial to a good fishing hole. Lee and his wife, Janine, dotted the Iowa map on their day trips together, visiting small-town restaurants. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Ely.
Lee is survived by his wife, Janine Norman of Ely; daughter, Tiffany Ontiveros of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Shirley Adams of Newington, Conn.; sister-in-law, Annette (Butch) Wieneke of Ely; nephews, Brian Kolner of Alexandria, Minn., and Brett Wieneke of Ely; nieces, Elli (Dan) Netolicky of Ely and Erin (Rob) Kramer of Ely; and his beloved dog, Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lillian Norman.
