Buchheit, Norman Lee
Norman Lee Buchheit, 46, of Independence, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. John's Catholic Church, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home, Independence, beginning with a vigil service at 3 p.m.
He was born July 15, 1965, the son of Sabinus Anthony Buchheit and Helen Marie (Rockwell) Buchheit. He graduated from St. John's High School, Independence, with the class of 1983 and attended Elsworth Community College, Iowa Falls. In November 1990, Norman married Debra DeGroote in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced. Norman worked as a salesman and was a regular vendor at farmers markets in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha, and sold sweet corn at Shueyville corners for 13 years. He began working for his father in the chicken business and later worked at Fareway Food Stores, Amana Refrigeration and operated the Swisher Sinclair Convenience Store for a time.
Norman is survived by one daughter, Tara Buchheit, Cedar Rapids; one son, Alexander Buchheit, Cedar Rapids; his father, Sabinus “Sonny” Buchheit, Independence; three brothers, David (Rosann) Buchheit, Dyersville, Alan (Kendra) Buchheit, Cedar Falls, and Scott (Cindy) Buchheit, Ladson, S.C.; and four sisters, Cindy (John) White, Jesup, Jennifer Buchheit, West Des Moines, Deb (Robert) Burger, Marion, and Barb (Mark) Haisch, Clive.
