Stookey, Norman Wilson
Norman Wilson Stookey, 97, formerly of Marion, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Careage of Newton, Iowa.A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
The son of Conrad Levi Stookey and Ruby Ethel (Carnes) Stookey, Norman was born May 12, 1913, in Cedar Rapids.
He attended the Cedar Rapids Schools and later graduated from Coe College. He served in World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines.
On Dec. 24, 1945, shortly after arriving home from overseas, he married his sweetheart, Genevieve Hazel Jensen in Cedar Rapids. Norman then returned to school at the University of Iowa and earned his Doctorate of Dentistry. Norman and Genevieve moved to Marion where he set up his dental practice.
He was involved with Waltonian Archers, served on the Marion School Board, enjoyed hiking, carpentry, wildlife, Genevieve's piano playing and was a member of the FUMC.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Dianne) Stookey; a daughter, Marcia (Bryan); six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Conrad; and his wife of 64 years.
