Baty, Norman E.
Norman E. Baty 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Troy Mills, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a short illness. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Norman is survived by his wife, Rande; two sons, Marc (Yalun) Baty and Eric (Elaine) Baty, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Darren (Kim) Baty of Clive and Devan Baty (Hatem Abu Dagga) of Coralville; three great-grandchildren, Allison and Carson Baty and Nasim Abu Dagga; three sisters, Bonnie (Coy) Walton of Troy Mills, Margaret Clark of Postville and Beverly (Loren) Clark of Cedar Falls; three stepdaughters, Linda Neese of Indianapolis, Tammy (Curt) Coxwell of Coggon and Tara (Marty) Schlesselman of Marengo; four stepgrandchildren, Justin Montague, Dustie Dotson, Jordan Neese and Nicole Schlesselman; and one great stepgranddaughter, Harmony Dotson.
Norman was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernie; his brother, Carl Baty; and a sister, Marilyn Frasher.
Norman was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Troy Mills, the son of Dale and Grace (McKee) Baty. He married Flemma Berniece Edney on Oct. 12, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2005. He married Wilma Lorene Gater on Aug. 20, 2011, in Cedar Rapids. Norman was a decorated veteran of World War II, where he served as a B-26 Radioman/Gunner.
