Abodeely, Ernest 'Ernie' G.
Ernest “Ernie” G. Abodeely, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 29, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Father Fred Shaheen of St. George Orthodox Church will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Memories, with a Trisagion service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Burial will take place at St. George Cemetery.
Surviving are his sister, Norma J. Allan of La Grange Park, Ill.; his nephews, George (Danya) Abodeely of San Francisco, Calif., Gregory (Maggie) Allan of Western Springs, Ill., Jeffrey (Leeann) Allan of La Grange Park, Ill., William (Katie) Allan of Brookfield, Ill., and Eric (Kim) Eiesland of Phoenix, Ariz.; and his niece, Carrie Beth Eiesland of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Joseph G. Abodeely, Georgina Eiesland and Arthur G. Abodeely.
Ernie was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George A. and Nellie (Ellis) Abodeely. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He owned and operated the Cedar Rapids Surplus Store from 1948 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church and was a member of a church choir. Ernie was a reading enthusiast, with a passion for medical and health-related information. He also enjoyed watching medical programs on television, especially the Dr. Oz show.
He will be greatly missed but forever remembered.
Memorial donations in Ernie's honor may be made to St. George Orthodox Church.
