Tom was born in Vinton, Iowa, the son of
Raymond and Florence (Rice) Nolan. He graduated from Van Horne High School in 1957 and from the University of Iowa College of Business Administration in 1961. That same year he moved to St. Louis, where he served as credit manager of the St. Louis office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 25 years. After taking early retirement from HUD in 1987, he went on to work an additional 10 years for two mortgage companies in suburban St. Louis, retiring a second time in 1997.
Tom traveled extensively both in the U.S. and in foreign countries. He also enjoyed visiting his farm northwest of Van Horne.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Immaculate Conception Church in Van Horne with Father Craig Steimel as celebrant. Burial of cremains will be held at Calvary Cemetery south of Van Horne.
