Cole, Janet Mary
MARION - Janet Mary Cole, 69, of Marion, died at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. Mass of Resurrection: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, by the Rev. John Flaherty. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, where a Scripture service begins at 7:15 p.m., and one hour before services Saturday at the church. Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
She was born April 16, 1941, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Les and Eleanor (Wolfe) Rubner. Janet was raised and educated in the Manchester area, graduating from Manchester High School. Janet was united in marriage to Merle D. Cole on July 7, 1962, at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville. She worked on her parents' farm for three years and then went to work at Rockwell-Collins for 36 years, retiring in 1996.
Janet loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, playing cards, going to casinos, and traveling, especially up north fishing.
Survivors include her husband, Merle D. Cole of Marion; three children, Mark (Lora) Cole, Steve (Kim) Cole and Jeff (Angie) Cole, all of Marion; her mother, Eleanor Rubner of Manchester; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Wade, Jacob, Amanda, Christopher, Jordan, Brooke, Jordan, Nicholas, Carter, Kiley and Kadia; one brother, Paul (Jane) Rubner of Masonville; and four sisters, Carol Ross of Manchester, Wilma Stallman of Watkins, Jane (Drew) Trott of Winthrop and Julie (Terry) Main of Muscatine.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, Les Rubner; and a sister, Mary Murphy.
