John R. "Jack" Zimmerman, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Living Center West after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, officiated by
the Rev. Phil Jorgensen. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jack was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Olin, Iowa, to Milo and Sophie (Dirks) Zim-merman. He owned Marion Circulation Business until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was previously a member of the Sunrise Optimist Club.
Jack is survived by son, Greg (Rosemary) Zimmerman of Iowa City; son, Mark (Pam) Zimmerman of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Cheryl (Lukas) Jordan of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson, Bret Zimmerman of China; great-granddaughter, Peyton Jordan, and one great-grandson expected in June; as well as sister, Ellie Paulson of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma in 1997; four brothers and five sisters.
The family would like to encourage donations in Jack's memory be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of sending flowers.
