Carol (Burroughs) Taylor, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital of pancreatic cancer. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Springville Presbyterian Church, where Carol was a lifelong member, by the Rev. Dr. Karen Downey-Beals. Burial: Springville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Kenneth; their children, Kenneth Dee Taylor of Marion, and Linda (Jim) Kipp of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jean Branch of Lombard, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Kipp of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son who died at birth; and a granddaughter, Angela Kipp.
Carol was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Springville, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Bowersox) Burroughs. On Jan. 17, 1942, she married Kenneth Taylor in Merriam, Kan. She and her husband lived in the Springville area for 50 years before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1992.
Carol was a homemaker and her greatest joy was celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family. She was a member of UPW and liked reading and playing bridge. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; a wonderful friend and neighbor; and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Frederick Johlin, Jr. and nurse, Mary Panther of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Dr. James Bell and St. Luke's Hospice caregivers; and St. Luke's Hospital 4th floor nurses.
