Max Dwayne Overturf, 76, of Agency, died at 10:45 p.m. Feb. 26, 2015, at Hospice House in
Ottumwa.
He was born May 14, 1938, in Bloomfield to Melvin and Kate Ellen Howk Overturf. He married Carolyn Vogt on Oct. 22, 1971.
A graduate of Bloomfield High School, he worked for WARECO Oil Co. at stations in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Ottumwa. He also worked for FMC Corp. and Iowa Machinery and Supply. He and his wife managed the Sudbury Court Motel in Marengo before retiring to Ottumwa in 1999.
He loved to hunt and fish as well as race stock cars at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; two daughters, Roxanna (Gary) Lloyd of Des Moines and Christina (Randy) Dicus of Cedar Rapids; a son, Brad (Lana) Overturf of Ankeny; six grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Kevin) Haas of Runnells; and three brothers, Maurice (Neila) Overturf, Martin "Short" (Debbie) Overturf and Mark Overturf, all of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Overturf and Marilyn Goldizen; and brother, Merle Overturf.
His body has been cremated. The family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa to greet friends. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House, serving Davis and Wapello counties, at 927 Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
