Mercil, Jim L.
Jim L. Mercil, 51, of 6709 Blue Stone Ct. NW, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at his home. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; parents, John and Bernadette Mercil; children, Michael (Amber) Mercil, Maggie Mercil and James A. Mercil, all of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughters, Dana (Ray) Bolinger of Oelwein and Sarah Regan of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, Katelyn, Zonona, Aliana, Harlow, Jaidyn, and a grandson on the way. Also surviving are his sisters, Lori (Mark) Slesar of Pewaukee, Wis., and Theresa Mohwinkle of Marion; his brother, John (Angee) Mercil of Marion; mother-in-law, Ruth Waldron of Waukon; brothers- and sisters-in-law, John (Annette) Waldron of Marion, Mark Waldron of Lakeland, Fla., and Anne (Peter) Fuchsteiner of St. Cloud, Minn.; his beloved nieces and nephews, Gina, Amy, Marty, Melissa, Steven, Lauren, Shannon, Erin, Mark II, Mary, Mathew, Michael, Adam and Carolyn; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mark Mohwinkle; and father-in-law, John Waldron.
Born Dec. 29, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minn., Jim was the son of John and Bernadette (Erickson) Mercil. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1978. In 1980, he married Teri Lee Offerman. They later divorced. On July 30, 1994, he was united in marriage to Diane Regan in Cedar Rapids. In his early years he worked in retail management and later became a successful contractor for Fed Ex Ground.
Jim's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend.
