Lauderdale, Viola J.
Viola J. Lauderdale, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Cahill. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Viola is survived by three sons, Frank (Mary) Jr., Ray and Mike (Kellie), all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Chris (Mindy), Cara (Dave), Jordan and Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Kimberly, David, Dalton, Xander and Grace; two sisters, Doris (Tom) West and Kathy (Stan) Hackert; and a brother, Nick (Sadie) Gevock.
Her husband, Francis Sr. (Dec. 23, 2000), and her parents precede Viola in death.
Viola J. Gevock was born on Feb. 3, 1929, in Washington, Iowa, daughter of Alex and Dorothy Bruty Gevock. She graduated from Washington High School and married Francis A. Lauderdale in Washington, Iowa, on Oct. 22, 1948. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1958. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Viola enjoyed reading and crocheting. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Viola's family would like to extend a “thank-you” to all the doctors and nurses at Mercy and Hiawatha Care Center for all their special care given to Viola.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
