Behrens, Alan Louis
Alan Louis Behrens, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hospice House of Mercy, Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jerry Doellinger. Interment: St. Stephens Cemetery, Atkins. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.Al is survived by his children, Becky (Allen) Glass of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Dolores) Behrens of Oak Forest, Ill., William (Carla) Behrens of Hiawatha, Sharon Zieser of Independence, Karen (James) Jordan of Lisbon and Cindy Behrens of Keystone; his dear companion, Marilyn Hejda; a sister, Jane (Phil) Beck of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Kenny Zieser.Al was born Sept. 28, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, to Louis and Paula Licht Behrens. He graduated from Atkins High School in 1959. He worked for Nash Finch Company for over 20 years and then was self-employed as an over-the-road truck driver. Al was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Al loved taking trips with Marilyn and his friends on his Gold Wing and restoring his camper.Memorials may be directed to the Hospice House of Mercy or Concordia Lutheran Church.Online condolences may be sent to under obituaries.
