Takes, Marilyn
Marilyn Takes, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a sudden illness. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana with Father Ardel Barta as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Urbana. The visitation also will be held at the church in Urbana from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn was born Dec. 12, 1943, at Vinton, to Burl and Charlotte (Hite) Abernathy and graduated from the Vinton High School. On Oct. 14, 1967, she was united in marriage to Grant Takes at Vinton. She was employed as an inspector at Rockwell Collins for 37 1/2, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana and enjoyed camping and fishing. Her greatest joy came from being a “grandmother.”
She is survived by her husband, Grant; her sons, Jim Takes and his fiancee, Connie McCartney, and John Takes and his wife, Jennifer, all of Urbana; her grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, Logan, Emily and Nick Takes, and Sydney McCartney; her brothers, Keith (Joan) Abernathy of Vinton and Don Abernathy of Victor; and her sisters, Carol Hackney of Eldora and Lorraine (Lyle) Marter of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, David; and her brother, Roger Abernathy.
