Smith, Elinor Baldwin (Hart)
Elinor Baldwin (Hart) Smith, 88, of Muncie, Ind., formerly of Vinton, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the Waters of Yorktown in Yorktown, Ind., following an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father Ardel Barta as celebrant. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
Elinor was born June 8, 1923, in Vinton, to Lynn and Marguerite (Baldwin) Hart, and graduated from Lincoln High School. Elinor worked as a legal secretary for Mossman and Mossman in Vinton for 36 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, and a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 69 years, Ralph Smith of Muncie, Ind.; her sons, Jim (Sherry) Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Steve (Roxie) Smith of Granger, Ind., Greg (Susan) Smith of Yorktown, Ind., and Mike Smith of Muncie, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Hart of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Catherine Smith in infancy; her daughter-in-law, Denise Smith; and two brothers, John Hart and Bill Hart.
A memorial fund has been established for the Vinton Aquatic Club.
