Michael, Alvena M.
Alvena M. Michael, 101, of 113 Greene St., Walker, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at West Village Care Center, Independence. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by Father Ardel Barta. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, where a rosary will begin at 5 p.m. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Margaret Differding and Pauline Leaven.
Alvena was born March 10, 1909, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Schmitz) Leaven, in rural Buchanan County near Walker, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Andrew Michael at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. An avid reader, Alvena worked as a grocery store clerk.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Alvena.
