Doris H. Williams, 90, of 6105 Greenbriar Lane SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Joe Polzin. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Doris is survived by two nieces, Martha (Roger) Driscoll of Dubuque and Marjorie (Larry) Pierce of Papillion, Neb.; a nephew, Michael Luber of Leander, Texas; several great-nieces; a great-nephew; and three great-great-nieces.

 Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; her father and mother; her brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Mary Luber; her stepmother, Lillian Barta Luber; a stepbrother, Lester Barta; and a stepsister, Millie McCall.

 Doris was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Feb. 19, 1921, the daughter of Michael “Hans” and Martha Luber. A 1938 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Doris was elected an Aristotelian while a student there. She graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1939. She was the Summa Cum Laude graduate at Coe College, graduating in 1943. She was awarded the Alpha Gamma Delta Rose Bowl and was the recipient of the Knox Prize. She was elected to membership in Pi Delta Epsilon and to National Alpha Lamba Delta, winning their award for distinguished scholarship. She also became a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She was listed in Who's Who Among Student in American Universities and Colleges.

 Doris graduated from St. Luke's Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1944, was employed at St. Luke's Hospital for several years and then worked in various physician offices and laboratories in Cedar Rapids.

 She married Everett L. Williams in 1949 in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and had a lifelong interest in animals and animal life. She and Everett lived near Walford, Iowa, for 10 years and during that time she served as secretary for the Walford school board for three years, at which time school consolidation changed the districts involved.

 Doris was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. While there she served as assistant organist for several years, worked on the banner committee for many years and was treasurer for the Bethany Lutheran Preschool for seven years.

 She was a member of East Iowa Heirloom quilters and was especially interested in quilting and counted cross-stitch as well as other forms of needle work.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Church, St. Luke's Health Care Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice.
