Porter, Donald W.
Donald W. Porter, 59, of Dunkerton, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at his home. He was born Sept. 24, 1950 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of William Homer and Mary Ann (Miller) Porter. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi with the Class of 1968. Don attended the University of Iowa for one year and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1969. Don attended Ellsworth Community College and later earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1977. He was united in marriage with Deborah Hunnicutt on August 25, 1973 in Waterloo. They were later divorced. Don worked as an Engineer for John Deere and Co. for 34 years, retiring on August 1, 2008. He enjoyed the outdoors including camping and golfing. Don loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, liked to cook and was a huge wrestling fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Moriah Porter-Peverill of Dunkerton; two sons, Jason (Danielle Anderson) Porter of Dunkerton and Aaron (Lisa) Porter of Evansdale; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Elijah, Isaiah, Alanna, Lilyann, Coleman, Isabelle and Caitlynn; his mother, Mary Ann Porter of Delhi; a sister, Jean (Steve) Wall of Delhi; and two brothers, Ken (Edima) Porter of Cibilo, Texas, and Jim (Diane) Porter of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Porter and his grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo. Full Military Honors will be accorded by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
