MERVIN "DEAN" YODER

Mervin "Dean" Yoder, 81, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Briarwood Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Briarwood Health Care Center.
Dean was born June 5, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of Urie and Lorena Beeney Yoder. He graduated from Kalona High School and earned his associate's degree from Southeastern Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oglethorpe. He married Beverly Swan on Aug. 24, 1955, in Baltimore, Md. They were married 57 years. She passed away in 2013. Dean retired from Barber Coleman/Quintco, where he worked for over 30 years.
Dean and Bev loved to travel, attend model railroad events and local attractions. He was a strong, devoted man, and will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his son, Mark Yoder (Stacy) of Chino Hills, Calif.; daughter, Deanna Squires (Jay) of Solon, Iowa; sister, Marjorie McArtor, residing in Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Blaine Yoder (Jaclyn), Brittany Lohmeier (Jeffre), Jaysson Squires and Courtney Squires; and three great-grandchildren, Linley Lohmeier, Everett Lohmeier and Reid Yoder, with a fourth great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a grandson, Brandon McWilliam.
