Joseph John Takes, 73, of Washington, died Thursday, April 21, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. His body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be Saturday, May 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wagon Wheel in Washington. Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is assisting Joseph's family.
Joseph John Jakes was born Feb. 22, 1943, in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Lloyd P. and Elda (Otting) Takes. He graduated from Monticello High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1975. Joe was a truck driver for Walkers Livestock in Washington.
Survivors include two stepsons, Brian (Kim) Coleman of Washington and Scott Coleman of Chicago; three grandsons, Trevor Beardshear of Tiffin and Travis and Tanner Coleman of Washington; 14 siblings, LJ Takes of Monitcello, Jean Takes of Illinois, Joan (Dan) Manternach and Mary Kay (Ron) Ackerman of Monticello, Carolyn (Jerry) Manternach of Anamosa, Darlene (Steve) Wilcox of Monticello, Sally (Jeff) Sawyer of Marshalltown, Tom (Mary) Takes of Cedar Rapids, Alan (Liz) Takes of Cascade, Alice (Tom) Brighton of Monticello, Carl (Jan) Takes of Anamosa, Charlie "Tuna" (Tami) Takes, Robbie Takes and Bill (Vicki) Takes, all of Monticello.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents; one sister, Loretta Beckman; and one stepson, James Coleman.
