Clemann, Evelyn May
Evelyn May Clemann, 82, of Toledo, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at Carrington Place in Toledo. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with Pastor Thomas Dowling officiating. Interment will follow at Haven Cemetery, rural Tama. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born Nov. 21, 1929, south of Tama, the daughter of Delbert and Edna (Ehlers) Coleman. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1948. Evelyn was united in marriage to Wayne G. Clemann on Aug. 12, 1950, in Waterloo. She worked as a waitress and cook in the area for many years and owned the El-Leo Café in Chelsea from 1968-1972. Evelyn also worked for Amana Refrigeration and the Chelsea Post Office for a time as well as doing sewing out of her home.
She enjoyed her family, dancing, and playing cards. Evelyn also liked to cook and sew. She was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and volunteered at the Iowa Veterans Home.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wayne on Sept. 8, 2005; sisters, Mabel Muck and Bettie Bearden; brothers, George Coleman, Russell Coleman and James Coleman; and a half brother, Howard Coleman.
Survivors include her three children, Ronald (Debra) Clemann of Keystone, Susan (David) Scott of Maquoketa and Russell (Leann) Clemann of Toledo; eight grandchildren, Jamey (Tracy) Clemann, Ryan Clemann, Hollie (Luke) Garwood, Steve (Kerry) Scott, Mike (Kindra) Scott, Kristi (Ryan) Haughey, Josh (Jen) Clemann and Heather (Joe) Hanus; 17 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bernita Knudsen of Toledo, Mary (Ray) DePauw of Brooklyn, Raymond (Betty) Coleman of Toledo, Florence (Paul) June of Cedar Rapids, Frances (Vaun) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Jim) Johnson of Chelsea and Gary (Jani) Coleman of Indianola.
A memorial fund has been established.
