Swenson, Leland E. 'Bubba' Sr.
Leland E. “Bubba” Swenson Sr., 68, of Van Horne, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Van Horne, by the Rev. David C. Lingard. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna; his children, Leland E. Swenson Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Connie) Swenson of Van Horne, and Karen (Mike) Knight of Van Horne; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four siblings, Susie, Mary, Allen Lee and Glen.
Bubba was born Jan. 24, 1943, the son of Edwin Leland and Mae Lucille (Chamberlain) Swenson in LeRoy, Minna. He married Donna May Harford on June 20, 1964, in Hiawatha. Bubba worked as a heavy equipment operator for Aggregates Inc. for 15 years, retiring in 2005. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Bubba was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his church family and possessed a wonderful sense of faith.
A memorial fund has been established in Bubba's memory.
