Engledow, John W.
John W. Engledow, 89, of Swisher, passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with longtime friend, Bill Wright officiating. A gathering will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, before the service.
Survivors include his sons, Pete (Tamara) of Mount Vernon and Scott (Christine) of Swisher. Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.
John William Engledow was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Maude (Miller) Engledow. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 14, 1943, he married Barbara J. Rasley in Cedar Rapids. She passed away in 1996.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
