Marlene M. Sloan, 81, of Victor, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Colonial Manor in Amana of a sudden illness.
A memorial gathering was held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

Marlene Mae (Murphy) Sloan was born the daughter of Clifford and Edith (Kiuber) Murphy in Petersburg Township, Minn., on March 24, 1935. She was raised in Iowa and graduated from Marengo High School in Marengo, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Eugene D. Sloan on Nov. 27, 1955, in Koszta, Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa, and Marlene was a homemaker. Her enjoyments included gardening, sewing and counted cross stitch.
Marlene is survived by her daughters, Marjena Sloan of Grinnell and Faye (Chris) Kimm of Blairstown; sons, Zachary (Missy) Sloan of Colon, Neb., and Eric (Angie) Sloan of Indianola, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; sister, Marvel (Larry) Schafbuch of Koszta; sister-in-law, Christine (Earl) Murphy of Johnson Lake, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepson, Terry Sloan; and siblings, Larry Murphy, Ronald Murphy, Laverne Murphy, Grace Tatge and Earl Murphy.
