Murphy, Eugene C.
Eugene C. Murphy, 80, of Clermont, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. Celebration of Life Services will be held at noon Tuesday at Schutte-Grau Funeral Chapel in Clermont. Interment will be in East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery, Clermont. Military rites will be held by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post #375, Clermont. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
Eugene Clare Murphy was born April 9, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Marvin Clare and Winnifred (Reynolds) Murphy. He attended Roosevelt High School before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Eugene was united in marriage with Judith Irene Sewell in 1955. To this union three sets of twins were born. Eugene and Judith were later divorced. Eugene was then united in marriage with Lydia Schneider on March 1, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. Eugene worked at Turner Microphone for six years and Rapids Inc. for 29 years before retiring.
Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post #5 and the Forty & Eight. He enjoyed socializing with family, friends and making new friends. He was the “king” at making popcorn. He also enjoyed telling jokes, ice skating, motorcycles and building CB radios.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Lydia of Clermont; four children, Debbie (Daniel) Powers of Burlington, Wis., Danny (Wanda) Murphy of Bryan, Texas, Dennis (Sharon) Murphy of Bonny Lake, Wash., and Donald “Donnie” Murphy of Cedar Rapids; six stepchildren, David (Jo) Schneider of Postville, Ed Schneider of Clermont, Karen (Dave) Roberts of Palo, LuAnn (Jeff) Alber of Ossian, Gary (Lisa) Schneider of Elgin, and Melinda (Brian) Schroeder of Clermont; 29 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Eugene was preceded in death by two children, Timothy Murphy and Patty Rupp; his parents; two brothers, Marvin and Dennis Murphy; and one sister, Ethella Leser.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa, is handling the arrangements.
