EVELYN "EVIE" KUN NELSON
Cedar Rapids
Evelyn "Evie" Kun Nelson, a child of God, passed from this life surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Celebration of life services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Pastors Tom Parrott and Becky High will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Ely.
Evelyn was born June 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John A. and Bessie (O'Connor) Kun. Evie graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington with the Class of 1965, then graduated from Paris Academy of Beauty and was an instructor with the school for over 10 years. She later did custom picture framing for both Kennedy Paint and Weber Paint. Her greatest career, however, was being the nanny for Nick, Holly and Chris Hazelton, whom she considered her family. In fact, Evie would introduce Tom and Lisa as the parents of her children.
Evie was always a caregiver for family and friends, helping them by just telling them how much they were loved and listening to their problems and helping them to come nearer to the Lord with prayer.
Evie met Dennis Nelson in 1993 and on Dec. 2, 2000, they eloped. On their fifth wedding anniversary they renewed their vows at Christ Community United Methodist Church in Marion, with Pastors Tom Parrott and Becky High officiating.
Evie is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; a sister, Mary Jean (Richard) Vincent of Hiawatha; a foster brother, Ronnie (Ellie) Cosgrove of Texas; her aunt, Iris Veenstra; many loving nieces and nephews, especially her namesake and great-niece, Sydney Evelyn Vincent, and a great-great-nephew, Aydan James Vincent. Two of God's greatest gifts and the best medicine.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bob Fisher; close friend, David Irvin; and many others whom she loved.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., or to the family.
Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.broshchapel.com
