Corporon, Darlene Anna
Darlene Anna Corporon, 77, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Brad Singleton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and wife Susan of Calhoun, Georgia, Douglas and wife Rebecca of Cedar Rapids and Shawn of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Linda Vogt and husband Paul of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Luedtke and husband Steven of Norway; foster son, Joseph Enos and wife Kimberly of Brandon; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are a brother, David Watts and wife Elaine; brother-in-law, Richard Corporon and wife Patricia; sister-in-law, Oleta Newell; and brother-in-law, Donald Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her sister, Kathryn Jones; and her brother, Frank Watts.
Darlene was born Jan. 6, 1934, the daughter of Leanus and Anna (Cenek) in Cresco. Her mother passed away when she was 8 months old and she was then raised by Leanus and her stepmother, Berniece. She graduated from Austin High School in May 1951. On Nov. 27, 1954, she married Donald O. Corporon in Austin, Minn. He died Jan. 21, 1994. For 10 years Darlene worked at Woolworth's in the kitchen. She also provided day care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Darlene loved to spend time with her family, reading, her garden, and flowers.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha or the American Cancer Society in Darlene's memory.
