Drees, Geraldine L. Douglas
Geraldine L. Douglas Drees, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at St. Jude's Catholic Church, with Father Mark Reasoner presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil.
Geraldine was born April 28, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Francis F. and Minnie P. (Cronk) Stark. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1938. She married Dale E. Douglas on Sept. 2, 1940, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Cedar Rapids. Dale died April 14, 1977. Geraldine married Clarence J. Drees on Sept. 11, 1981, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Clarence died Jan. 31, 1997.
Geraldine had worked at Barker Shoe Store, Life Investors and Giant Store. She enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, traveling and also being a foster parent. She loved the time spent with her family, especially the grandkids and great-grandkids.
Geraldine is survived by her children, Francis (Janet) Douglas and Judy (Marvin) Weber, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Matias, David Douglas, Tony Weber (Donna Gannon), Dan (Bev) Douglas, Diane (Bob) Jorgensen, Dennis Douglas and Karen (Stuart) Farmer; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husbands; one brother, Melvin Stark; and two sisters, Hazel Thoman and Iola Milota.
