Morrison, Michael Allen
Michael Allen Morrison, 60, died unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2012, at his home of a heart ailment. Funeral services to celebrate Michael's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Karl Koch-Divine officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Sunday parking regulations will apply.
Mike was born July 8, 1952, in Iowa City, the son of Harold and Marjorie Beatty Morrison Sr. He was raised in Davenport, where he was a 1970 graduate of Central High School and attended Palmer Junior College. Mike married Bunny Golden on June 9, 1973, in Davenport. Bunny and Mike lived across the street from each other and were high school sweethearts. They moved from Davenport to Iowa City in 1980.
Mike was a department manager at the Iowa City Walmart. Before that he had been the assistant vice president branch manager for the University of Iowa Community Credit Union.
He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Crisis Center Food Bank. Mike was an avid Hawkeye fan, loved to travel and boat with his family, drink his Diet Pepsi and play solitaire.
He will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by the love of his life, Bunny; and their children, Heather Morrison of Chicago and John (Amy) Morrison of Omaha; three siblings, H. “Wayne” (Randie) Morrison Jr. of North Port, Fla., Donna (Scooter) Phillips of Rock Island, Ill., and Pam (Tom) Wilcox of Moline, Ill.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick (Kelly) Golden of Keysville, Va., Ken (Donna) Golden and Mary Britcher, both of Davenport, and Peggy (Phil) George of Des Moines; cousin, Doug (Lisa) Hoffman of East Moline, Ill.; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and his beloved dog-faced girls, Sadie, Cloey and Lady.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Children's Miracle Network at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
