Oellrich, Gerald 'Jerry' D.
Gerald “Jerry” D. Oellrich, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Rock Ridge Care Center, Shellsburg. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Jerry was born to Pete and Irma (McQuillen) on Aug. 22, 1933, in Clarence, Iowa. He attended Anamosa School. Jerry married Irene D. Ricklefs on Nov. 1, 1952. They later divorced. Jerry worked for Cargill Inc. for 27 years, retiring in 1979.
A lifelong farmer, Jerry farmed in the Springville and Toddville areas, most recently with his son, Steve. After retiring from farming, Jerry moved to Palo.
Jerry loved to play golf, go to tractor pulls and casinos and socializing.
Jerry is survived by six daughters, Susan (Tom) Kimball of Indianola, Sally Fabre of Aloha, Ore., Sandra (Larry) Germaine of Center Point, Sherry Christensen of Loveland, Colo., Sylvia Dawson of Cedar Rapids and Tricia (Denny) Spear of Toddville; a son, Steven (Deb) Oellrich of Toddville; 11 grandchildren, Crystal Rawlins and Shawn Kimball, Phillip and Preston Fabre, Nikki Olson, Ryan and Johnny Sieck, Derek, Tia and Noah Dawson and Chelsea Spear; three great-grandchildren, Jovie and Dylan Olson and Quentin Fabre; a sister, Doris “Jean” Clark; two brothers, Larry (Vonnie) Oellrich and Eldon Oellrich; and his beloved dog, Shelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Oellrich; sisters, Lorene McGuire, Dorothy Beardsley and Betty Brokaw; and son-in-law, Gary Sieck.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice.
