Ervin H. Lewis, 76, passed peacefully Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City with Father Corey Close officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where

a rosary will be recited at

4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to St. Mary's Church.

Erv was born June 2, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of Carrie Odessa (Graper) and Eugene Lewis. Ervin married M. Elyse Cahill on Nov. 14, 1964. He graduated from Iowa City High School. He received his bachelor's degree in 1963 and his master's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling in 1967 from the University of Iowa. He worked for many years as a counselor and supervisor for Iowa Rehabilitation and Education Services.

Erv was a member of St. Mary's Church. He was an avid Hawkeye and Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed baseball games, fishing and gardening. Most importantly to Erv was his family, friends and the good times they shared.

Survivors include his loving wife, Elyse; and their three children, Jill Lewis Dennis, Eric Lewis and Jodi (Bill) Keating, all from Iowa City; four grandchildren, Joey Dennis, Meg Keating Jack Keating and Mac Keating; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Lewis of Loveland, Colo., and Howard (Dorothy) Lewis of Coralville; two sisters, Sandra (Hal) Weinard of West Liberty and Linda (Ed) Scheetz of Coralville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (Dean) Steckly, Patricia (Robert) Christensen, John (Nancy) Cahill and Jim Cahill; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
