Shannon, Russell D.
Russell D. Shannon, 75, of Independence, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home in Independence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Russell was employed with General Mills in Cedar Rapids for 15 years, before his retirement in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores A. Shannon, Independence; five children, Pat (Janet) Shannon, Independence, Nancy Kieler, Dubuque, Beth (Randy) Koppes, Iowa City, Mike (Lori) Shannon, Independence and Tim (Tina) Shannon, Marion; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
