Charles O. Shira, 86, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, in Las Vegas. Per his request, there will be no service. A private family inurnment will be held.
Charles worked at Wilson Meat Packing and Farmstead Foods. He met the love of his life, Doris, and they married on Sept. 5, 1959. Charles served in the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Charles is survived by his stepchildren, Penny (Richard) Lerch of Las Vegas, Nev., and Shirley Hilleshiem, Joan (Richard) Johnson and Jack (Betty) Robertson, all of Cedar Rapids; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; parents, Charles and Minta Shira; son, Tony Lee; stepdaughter, Delores Becicka; and stepsons-in-law, Buzz Becicka and LeRoy Hilleshiem.
