Richard "Dick" Erb, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at his home. Visitation:
5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home.
Dick was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Hankinson, N.D., the son of Adolph and Marguerite (Doyle) Erb. He graduated in 1961 from St. Francis Academy in North Dakota, and received his associate degree and certificate in electrical technology from the North Dakota State School of Science. Dick served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965. He married LeeAnn Smith, and they were later divorced. Dick worked as a supervisor at Square D for over 35 years and also was Square D credit union president. He was a member of American Legion Post 671, Swisher, Iowa, and Pheasants Forever, and he enjoyed his time as a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital. Dick was an avid hunter, and would take his fishing pole anywhere the fish might bite. He loved to read, cheer for the Minnesota Vikings, and enjoyed his NASCAR Sundays.
Dick is survived by his sons, Brad (Martha) Erb and David Erb (Keri Ward), all of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Mishayla Ward; siblings, James "Jim" (Elaine) Erb, Robert Erb, Mary (Duane) Loll and Karen (Roy) Dohman; dear friend and longtime companion, Charlene Schneider; and several extended family members and friends whom he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
