Richard Dean Rhinehart, 80, of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral service:
11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28,
at First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Reynolds Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established.
Richard is survived by a daughter, Darla (Tim) Ingersoll of Brooklyn; three sons, Mark (Kayleen) Rhinehart of Brooklyn, Lynn (Debbie) Rhinehart of North Liberty and Steven (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Marvin (Leigh) Hilligas of Ladora, Mark Hilligas of Brooklyn and Lee (Becky) Hilligas of Arizona; four step-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Holmes of California; and two brothers, Duane (Penne) Rhinehart of Victor and Paul Rhinehart of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, in 2013; a daughter, Connie; and a sister, Marjorie Gilliland.
Richard was born Feb. 22, 1935, in rural Brooklyn, the son of Walter and Ruth Combs Rhinehart. He received his education in the Brooklyn schools. He married Dorothy McDonald on Jan. 29, 1973. Richard did various jobs, such as roofing and building skids for Scot-Ark. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and deer hunting with family and friends.
