Melichar, Richard Lee
Richard Lee Melichar, 63, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at his home in Grain Valley, Mo.
Rick was born Sept. 6, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Blanche (Terpkosh) Melichar.
He retired from Southwestern Bell in 2002. Rick was a member of the American Legion and had been a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Independence, Mo.
Rick was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Vietnam. He loved to play cards and Ping-Pong and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Melichar Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Eileen Melichar of the home; son, Robert Melichar of Odessa, Mo.; daughter, Kristi Heitman and husband Craig of Independence, Mo.; three grandchildren Siera and Sage Heitman and Michael Melichar; two brothers, Don Melichar and Ed Melichar; and one sister, Jan Ashbacker, all of Cedar Rapids.
Rick will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
May God hold him always in the palm of His hand.
