Brandt, Richard Lee
Richard Lee Brandt, 60, of 440 Elder Lane NW, died peacefully after an extended illness at Mercy Medical Center on Monday, July 27, 2009. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Rev. Jonathan Offt of Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends may visit Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Friday after 10 a.m.
Richard was born May 19, 1949, in Iowa City, to Fred V. Brandt and Gail L. Feisel Brandt. He was raised in Tama County, with his four siblings: Carol (Sorenson), Steven, Debra (Groff) and Charles. He graduated from South Tama High School in 1967 and Iowa State University in 1970. He was married on March 7, 1970, in Rochester, Minn., to Carol Ann Meyer.
Richard and Carol moved to Cedar Rapids in 1971. He was employed by Link Belt Speeder and Rockwell-Collins as a mechanical designer. Through the years he had many interests, including fishing, cycling, model railroading and restoring John Deere equipment. His warmest memories were of days spent with loved ones on the family farm.
His greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his wife Carol, his two sons Eric (Lisa) and Joel (Lindsay), and his two grandchildren, Andrew and Emily. A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
