Wyatt, Ralph 'Bob'
Ralph “Bob” Wyatt, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Inurnment: Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where memory sharing will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wyatt; his children, Scott Wyatt of Cedar Rapids, Robin K. Wyatt of Cedar Rapids, Kim Marie (Randy) Wyatt of North Liberty, Peter Anthony (Angela) Wyatt of Muscatine, Tom (Denise) Wyatt of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Terry) Wyatt of Swisher and Matt (Cathy) Wyatt of Cedar Rapids; and stepchildren, Lori (Steve) Shebetka of Amana, Cathy Martensen of Shellsburg, Julie (Bruce) Miller of Norway and Christy (Matt) Schultz of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey; three sisters and a brother.
Bob was born July 30, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rueben and Meta Keister Wyatt. He married Bonni Krumm on Aug. 28, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced. He then married the love of his life, Barb Hellwig, on Sept. 19, 1997, in Fairfax. Bob was employed with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Iowa Lumber Dealers, Link-Belt Speeder and later with the Cedar Rapids school system. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Musketeers Drum and Bugle Corps, and later involved with the Cedar Rapids Cadets, Grenadiers and then Emerald Knights and Colts Drum and Bugle Corps.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, reading (especially history) and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Bob was very proud to serve in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 until 1946.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
