Norman was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Rochester Township, Cedar County, Iowa. He was the son of Norman Lewis and Mary Christian Ford. Norman was united in marriage to Janet Catherine Inks on March 5, 1961, in Mechanicsville, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years and was honorably discharged on Sept. 30, 1964.
Norman was a farmer all of his life. His day began with work and usually ended with work. A wise man once said that "if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life," and so it was with Norman. Norman was a member of the First United Church of Christ, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Elks Club of Muscatine, and served as a director on the board of the Cedar County Co-op for nine years.
Norman is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Ford; and their two sons, Nolan and wife, Julie Ford, and Neil Ford, all of Tipton; his grandchildren, Riley, Zachary and Britney Ford; his brother, Dwain and wife, Ev Ford of Tipton; his sister, Grace E. Ford of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Thank you to the Cedar County Sheriff's Department and the Tipton Ambulance and those who responded to save his life.
