Nachtman, Harold Irvin
Harold Irvin Nachtman, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Monday, April 15, 2013.
He was born Oct. 3, 1940, at his home on the farm near Sand Springs, Iowa, the son of Louis and Leona (Greiner) Nachtman. Harold was raised and educated in the area, and attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and graduated in 1958.
Harold stayed at home to help his dad farm for five years until he was drafted in the United States Army. He served honorably for two years, stationed in Fort Sill, Okla. On Aug. 12, 1965, Harold was united in marriage to Linda Kate “Lynne” Mitchell in Lawton, Okla. Two children were born to this union. Together they farmed near Ryan until in 1993 when they moved to Cedar Rapids.
Harold was a member of St. Pius X Church in Cedar Rapids, a 45-year member of the Ryan American Legionand a pastmember of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. He loved farming and working at Linn-Mar Excelsior Middle School as custodian for many years.
Harold took wonderful care of his family.
Survivors include his two children, Chuck (Pam) Nachtman of North English and Michelle Nachtman of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Bradley and Brian Nachtman; two brothers, Art (Marge) Nachtman of Ryan and John (Caroline) Nachtman of Manchester; and two sisters, Sister Mildred Nachtman O.S.F. of Dubuque and Edith Schwers of Anamosa.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Lynneon Sept. 16, 2010; his parents; and two sisters, Sister Loretta Nachtman O.S.F. and Esther Linden.

Mass of Resurrection: 11 a.m. Thursday, April18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan, by concelebrants, the Rev. Dennis Cain and the Rev. Phil Thompson. Friends may call from 3 to 7p.m.Wednesday, April 17, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, where a 4 p.m. Scripture service will be held. Visitation also will be held one hour before serviced at the church on Thursday. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
