Philip Edward Schoenthaler, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away June 6, 2014, to celebrate his new life.
Phil was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, on Nov. 5, 1956, to George "Stu" and Norma (Cahill) Schoenthaler. He graduated from Maquoketa Community High School and continued his education at Iowa Lakes and Kirkwood Community colleges. Phil was married to Debra S. Faas on Nov. 8, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev. They shared their lives for 21 years. Phil was employed at The Eastern Iowa Airport and Wildwood Smokehouse in Iowa City. Phil enjoyed music, cooking, camping, time spent with family and friends, but most of all his beloved Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Carrissa Schoenthaler and Cassandra Schoenthaler (Cody Link); his mother and her husband, Robert Mottet; brother, Marty (Kim) Schoenthaler; his father-in-law, Dairyl Faas; his sister-in-law, Elaine Faas (Patti Foltz); brother-in-law, Duane (Sheryl) Faas; and nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; great-niece, Karli Faas; and mother-in-law, Edna Faas.
A celebration of life will be held at the Eagles Club (1735 11th St. NW, Cedar Rapids) on June 22 at 1 p.m. Casual dress is appropriate.
Any memorial donations may be made to the Linn County Humane Society.
