Letter: Keep downtown stoplights for safety

How many people have to be maimed?
How many vehicles have to smashed?
How many people have to die?
How many casualties must there be until officials make downtown safe again? Reinstall the 4-way stop lights. At the very least, put 4-way stop signs on the streets.
Having the side streets swoosh through the intersections on the main avenues is dangerous and ludicrous. Pedestrians are at the mercy of drivers - even more than before. Detaining people five minutes driving through all of downtown is not going to prevent them from coming to Cedar Rapids. Accidents and death will.
