My beloved younger sister, Catherine Marion Engle, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Cathy was born in Marion, Iowa, on Aug. 9, 1925, to Ida and Morris Katz. In 1932, our family moved to Cedar Rapids but kept the family business, Katz Salvage, in Marion.
Cathy graduated from Franklin High School and then moved to Chicago to live with our sister, Ceil. She worked for her brother-in-law's company there until she married Mort Engle, a real estate developer and a fine man.
In their happy life together, they lived in Glencoe, Ill.; Lake Forest, Ill.; Palm Springs, Calif.; and Scottsdale, Ariz. Cathy enjoyed tennis, bridge and spending time with her children. She was also a very good cook. Cathy had a great sense of humor and her laughter was a joy to us all.
She is survived by her children, Richard, Susan and Dan (Helen Brekke); her grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Michael, Adam, William (Lauren) and Laurabeth; her nieces and nephews; and me, Bert Katz.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, our parents and our brothers and sisters, Celia, Henry, Fred, Ruth and Sydney.
A private family service for Cathy will be held at a later date.
