MARY REIDY KNIPP

Mary Reidy Knipp, 94, of Marshalltown, formerly of Independence and Manchester, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.
Mary was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Monti, Iowa, the daughter of John and Annie (Reilly) Monaghan. She was a 1941 graduate of the Winthrop High School. She married John C. Reidy on Oct. 6, 1945, in Monti. He preceded her in death in 1956. On Oct. 6, 1972, she married George Knipp in Manchester. He preceded her in death in 2003.
She worked at Micro Switch, Security State Bank and Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence. She owned and operated the Craft & Hobby Shop in Manchester until her retirement. Mary volunteered for the Red Cross in Manchester and Independence and mentored at St. John's Catholic School in Independence until she moved to Marshalltown in 2015.
Mary is survived by her son, Donnie (Kris) Reidy, Independence; daughters, Connie (Roger) Kremer, Ankeny, Jane (Craig) Jennings, Marshalltown, and Susan Schoeberl, Waterloo; stepdaughters, Kathy Knipp Donelson, Marion, Kris Knipp Meyer, Cedar Rapids, Karol (Terry) Knipp Johnston, Manchester, Kim (Al) Knipp Cole, Manchester, and Karla (Rob) Knipp Beadle, Marion; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister-in-law and best friend, Loretta Reidy, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Reidy and George Knipp; a son, Martin (Marty) Reidy; a stepdaughter, Karen Knipp Gilbert; a son-in-law, Rick Schoeberl; two brothers, Vincent and Louis Monaghan; and a sister, Evelyn Moseley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monti. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's Catholic School, 314 Third St. NE, Independence, for tuition; or to a cancer fund or hospice of choice.
