Sharon L. Koch, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass:
10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Reasoner will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, where there will be a vigil service at 2 p.m.
Survivors include her husband, John; two daughters, Sherri and Kristina Koch, and a son, David (Kelly), all of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Lloyd McGrath of Eldridge; three sisters, Shirley (Merlin) Scheller of Aurora, Ill., Rosemary (Tom) Remakel of Dubuque and Sue (Dave) Leifker of Poplar Grove, Ill.; two grandchildren, Abby and Ryan Koch, both of Cedar Rapids; and close family friends, Kelly, Brianna and Jaxon Hopp.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Andy McGrath.
Sharon was born Oct. 13, 1949, in Dubuque, the daughter of Thomas and Frances Bahl McGrath. She graduated from the Academy of the Visitation in Dubuque in 1967. On July 5, 1969, she was united in marriage to John F. Koch.
She spent her life caring for children. When her own children were grown, she worked with infants and toddlers several years and then provided in-home care.
Sharon was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo, coloring and especially the time spent with her friends and beloved family.
Sharon was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and sister, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha in Sharon's name.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their wonderful care and support.
