Donald "Don" J. Plowman Jr., 55, of Shellsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial gathering: 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his children, Michael Plowman, Corey Riley, Ashley Plowman, Bryce Plowman, Dustin Plowman, Jennifer Canas and Brittany Howland; 11 grandchildren; siblings, Linda Patterson, Doug (Theresa) Plowman, Dave (Kim) Plowman and Dennis (Teresa) Plowman; several nieces and nephews; and his companion of 18 years, Dee Howland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lacy Plowman; and son, Derek Plowman.
Don was born July 26, 1959, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Donald and Edna (Wright) Plowman Sr. He lived in Florida for 25 years, working in the swimming pool industry. He then moved back to Shellsburg and worked for Liebovich Steel in Cedar Rapids for seven years.
Don loved his family, fishing, watching wrestling, Teddy, his parrot; and Gizmo, his dog. He was a friend to all and had a heart of gold.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don's name to the American Cancer Society.
