Meyer, Jean A.
Jean A. Meyer, 76, of Coralville, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at First Christian Church in Coralville, where there will be a time of visitation on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Cemetery near Mount Union, Iowa.
Jean Adele Meyer was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Flayharty) Meyer. Following graduation from Mount Union (Iowa) High School, she received her RN in nursing from Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and her BSN from the University of Iowa School of Nursing in 1955. She was an instructor and supervisor in the operating room of Burlington Hospital School of Nursing for a number of years. In 1975, she completed her studies to receive her master's degree in nursing from the University of Iowa. For the next two years she was an instructor at the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa. For the years after this until her retirement in 1995, she was in nursing administration at Veterans Affairs Medical Center here in Iowa City.
Jean's passions in her life were nursing, music, and the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially members of the football team and wrestling squads! She was also a member of First Christian Church in Coralville.
Her family includes her sister and dearest friend, Annette of Coralville; brother, Robert Meyer of Dallas, Texas; and four nieces and one nephew, Gretchen Brister, Aubrie Meyer, Anna Shinpaugh, Katrina Meyer and Major Dennis Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
