Paul Richard Brogan, 70, of Coralville, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at
Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Paul R. Brogan Memorial Fund.
Paul was born March 29, 1944, in Shueyville, Iowa, to Richard and Lucille (Reynolds) Brogan. Paul farmed in rural Solon before moving to Coralville and was a graduate of Iowa City High School. On Feb. 14, 1981, Paul married Jayne Gaffey at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Paul joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. Paul was employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 44 years in the HVAC Engineering Services Department, retiring in 2009.
Paul also was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. During his life, Paul enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and traveling.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jayne of Coralville; and his children, Bryan Brogan (Lisa Ulrich) of Springfield, Ill., Sarah (Matthew) Vajgrt of Cedar Rapids and Amanda Brogan of Coralville; a sister, Patricia Riley of Iowa City; brothers-in-law, Michael (Donna) Gaffey, Martin (Mary) Gaffey, Timothy (Mary Ann) Gaffey and James (Sally) Gaffey of Iowa City; sisters-in-law, Susan Wolf of Davenport and JoAnn Gaffey of Iowa City; and his father-in-law, Robert H. Gaffey of Iowa City. Paul also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Marian Gaffey; and brothers-in-law, Donald Wolf, David Lehman and John Riley.
The family wishes to thank the staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the love and support they have given Paul over the years. Special thanks goes to Dr. Rebecca Davis and Dr. Frederick Johlin.
